Georgie Fame

It’s a far cry from Soho’s Flamingo Club to leafy Spencers for one of the legendary names in popular music, Georgie Fame, who celebrates fifty years in the business during 2009.
50 years, 14 hit singles (including 3 number ones) and over 30 albums represent the marvellous legacy of a singer, pianist, organist and arranger whose heart has always been in jazz and R&B - and as Georgie says “the blues and me, we get along fine”.
This diversity means that his live sets with The Blue Flames are a tour de force with tunes from everyone from Hoagy Carmichael and Jon Hendricks to Van Morrison (three past collaborators). Georgie too is a brilliant lyricist and composer, as those gigs and recordings attest.
The Blue Flames tonight will include some of Britain’s very best musicians: check out trumpeter Guy Barker and Alan Skidmore on tenor saxophone!

Swing Out Sister

Co-headlining with Georgie Fame are the perfect pop group Swing Out Sister, who perform an unplugged show they describe as “a more acoustic set, up close and personal!”
We’re thrilled to have Swing Out Sister at Spencers - a unique band whose elegant melange of 60s pop and soul with jazz fusion is documented by numerous hit singles and ten superb albums over a career of nearly twenty five years. You’ll remember those singles - “Breakout”, “Surrender” and “Twilight World” - of course, records that gave style to the charts of the late eighties.
Fast forward to 2008 and the release of Swing Out Sister’s tenth CD, “Beautiful Mess”, which finds vocalist Corinne Drewery and keyboard player/arranger Andy Connell at the peak of their game. Corinne and Andy lead a sextet at Spencers for a concert that is our chance to enjoy some of the catchiest pop melodies ever written. One essential gig!
